About agency owners
Vernon Shurr started Shurr Insurance in 1923. He owned a small farm in Porter County at the time and was looking for additional means to support his family. Through his farming and Valparaiso community relationships, and his passion to always be willing to help all those around him, the Shurr Insurance legacy had begun. That passion for helping and protecting others in our community was planted into each generation of Shurr sons to follow, pushing the agency through 4 generations of the Shurr family (Vernon, Emerson “Bud”, Larry, and Jon). Today, Larry and Jon own and operate the agency, pushing it further into the digital and Artificial Intelligence era while keeping rooted in what the agency was established on: family and relationships. Jon has earned multiple designations to better understand this industry and best serve his team and clients. Although Larry and Jon wear multiple hats in operating the agency, family and relationships take priority in all that they do.
